More airlines make direct flights to KIA

Effective December this year, KLM Airline will start landing twice a day at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) increasing the number of planes to Tanzania’s second biggest airport tremendously this year.

This initiative is a result of the fast growing tourism sector in the country’s northern zone, as well as the shortage of direct flights to KIA from overseas, causing some tourists heading there to connect flights from neighbouring counties.

Tanzania Tourist Board’s (TTB) Managing Director Dr Aloyce Nzuki, told The Guardian on Friday that introducing two direct flights from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to KIA twice a day will promote tourism and trade in Tanzania as well as attract new tourists from various parts of the world.

These new routes are in line with KLM’s airline strategy to expand its network to Tanzania and tap the growing and potential traveler traffic.

“KLM has been serving a lot of tourists from Europe, America to Tanzania for many years and as I speak to you, KLM connection carriers offer services in 90 countries,” he said.
