AIR Tanzania has recorded 57 per cent rise in passenger traffic in just a few days after receiving the leased 50-seater CRJ-200 aircraft and stepped up on-time performance to 98 per cent.
The airline also boasts of its Easter Holiday Special fares for Mtwara-bound passengers who will now be paying 250,000/- for a return ticket.
This was revealed in Dar es Salaam by ATCL Acting Chief Executive Officer, Captain Milton Lazaro, while reviewing performance of the newly leased aircraft. Capt. Lazoro said that generally, the arrival of CRJ- 200 aircraft earlier last month has catalyzed the performance graph to shoot to appealing standards.
"I have to admit that the aircraft has been well received by our esteem customers. Within the few weeks after being in operation, we have realised significant growth in passenger traffic. "We have now managed to enhance our credibility before our customers.
Equally the feedback has been very encouraging," said Capt. Lazaro. He mentioned that contrary to reports carried in some media that claimed operating the leased CRJ-200 was a burden, the aircraft has not only revived and strengthened ATCL but also helped the airline to save money and time.
Capt. Lazaro also added that, increase in the number of passengers flying by Air Tanzania was influenced by the fact that CRJ-200 flying time is much shorter compared to other planes plying the same routes.
"Apart from a shorter flying time, the aircraft has increased our on-time performance to a significant 98 per cent. This state has restored confidence among our passengers who are now sure of travelling within the scheduled time," he said.
Air Tanzania recently launched its commercial flights to Mbeya's new Songwe International Airport using its CRJ-200 aircraft. The 58-minute Dar es Salaam - Mbeya flight, which is scheduled for four days in a week; Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, has been welcomed by passengers and businessmen frequenting Mbeya and Dar es Salaam.
Earlier, statements from the airline stated that passengers will now enjoy daily flights from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza, four times a week to Mbeya and will fly to Moroni in Comoro on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
The airline also waived penalties imposed on no show passengers and those seeking change of reservation, to save their passengers from incurring extra costs in case they encounter unforeseen emergencies before travelling. "We don't believe in punishing our beloved guests," said Capt. Lazaro.
The national flag carrier's expansion plans include opening up Tabora - Mpanda route and resuming all its old routes.
ATCL is currently flying to eight destinations including Mtwara, Mwanza, Tabora, Kigoma, Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Bujumbura and Moroni in the Comoros.
